Frequently Asked Questions
Halal medicines, excipients, and how RxHalal works.
Is RxHalal a fatwa or medical advice?
+
No. RxHalal is an information tool that surfaces ingredient sources, halal status, and confidence — based on public databases. We are not a fatwa authority and not your clinician.
Why is a medicine marked Uncertain?
+
Excipients like magnesium stearate, glycerin, or fatty acids can be plant- or animal-derived. When manufacturers don't disclose the source, we mark the item Uncertain and show what to ask your pharmacist.
Are gelatin capsules halal?
+
It depends on the source. Bovine gelatin from a halal-slaughter source is generally accepted; porcine gelatin is not. Many capsule shells use animal gelatin without specifying species — ask the manufacturer or look for HPMC (vegetarian) alternatives.
What about tiny amounts of ethanol?
+
Many syrups and tinctures contain trace ethanol as a solvent or preservative. Scholars differ on negligible amounts (istihlak). We surface the presence and let you consult a qualified scholar.
Where does your data come from?
+
Public sources: DailyMed (US NLM), MHRA (UK), FDA Inactive Ingredient Database, USP, IFANCA, AAOIFI, WHO, and PubMed. Every result links to its source.
Do you store my health data?
+
No. My Meds is saved locally on your device. We don't require accounts and we don't track you.
Can I use RxHalal offline?
+
Yes. Install it as a PWA. Barcode scan, medicine/ingredient search, vaccine facts, compare, and full label analysis (paste) work offline from the bundled catalog. Photo OCR and optional AI enhancement need internet.
